  • Prof. Dr. Panos Dimitropoulos: Professor of Digital Manufacturing

    Panos Dimitropoulos has more than twenty years of experience at the meeting point of mechanical engineering and digital technology. His work centres on Digital Manufacturing, with a particular interest in Robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence and how they can make production systems more connected, adaptive and efficient.

    He has held senior leadership roles at well-known Swiss and German, multinational machine manufacturers, including Bystronic, TRUMPF, and dormakaba. There he was responsible for global software development, technology, architecture and Smart Factory solutions. He currently also leads digital products and AI strategy at Jakob Müller Group.

    His academic career includes positions as Visiting Professor at EPFL and Associate Professor at the University of Thessaly. He also has an entrepreneurial background: as co-founder and CTO of SENSAP Swiss AG, he developed machine-vision inspection systems for the pharmaceutical packaging industry.

    He holds an MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD in Microsystems Design. He is the inventor of numerous international patents and has published more than 50 articles in scientific journals.

    At BFH he brings this combination of industrial, academic and entrepreneurial experience to teaching and applied research. He also heads the Industrial Engineering Laboratory.
