SwissSailing VR-SIH

SwissSailingVR is a virtual reality application that allows sailors to analyze a recorded regatta in VR and relive the race from any position in space. Invisible aspects such as the wind are visualized.

Situation

Spatial interpretation is one of the major challenges in sailing because the wind is only indirectly visible, and the optimal course is practically never the direct route to the destination.

Course of action

With our mobile VR application SailingVR, we can relive any regatta recorded with GPS trackers in VR at a 1:1 scale, in real time or accelerated. Users can sit on any boat or view the regatta from a bird's-eye perspective. Invisible aspects such as wind, speed, or lane markings can also be displayed.

Result

In the current project version, we obtain the tracking data from sapsailing.com. This project expansion was funded by the Swiss Olympic Innovation Hub.
