CV

  • Lennart Dohms was born in Bonn in 1981. After studying theology and theater studies at the University of Cologne, he completed his musical training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Conservatoire supérieur de Paris, and the Dresden University of Music, where he graduated with honors. He attended master classes with Peter Eötvös, Sian Edwards, and Peter Gülke. Transdisciplinary performances, works on the (re)contextualization of music, and an interest in sociocultural fields of development are a driving force behind his work both within and outside of institutions.
    He collaborates with orchestras and ensembles throughout Europe and has premiered or given the first performances of over 400 works, ranging from chamber music and experimental pieces to large-scale opera productions.
    As a founding member of the ensemble “El Perro Andaluz,” he was awarded the Dresden Culture Prize; for his work as a conductor, he received the Arras Prize for artistic achievement. With the ensemble, he is both part of the cooperative cultural institution “Zentralwerk” and a member of FREO—the association representing independent ensembles and orchestras in Germany. He is an alumnus of the Akademie Musiktheater heute. The latter, as well as the Berlin Academy of Arts, invited him to serve as a jury member. In 2018, he was appointed a full member of the Saxon Academy of Arts.
    Since 2013, he has served as program director for the Master’s in Classical Performance and the Master’s in Specialized Classical Performance at the BFH/HKB. Here, he has developed the specializations in Research, New Music (including a joint D-A-CH master’s program), Music in Context, and Chamber Music into distinct degree programs.
