Key points at a glance

  • More than 230 students have started their studies at the Higher Technical School of Wood Biel and the School of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering of Bern University of Applied Sciences.
  • Bachelor's students and future Advanced Federal Diploma students in Wood Technology took part in a joint introductory day on 14 September. The programme focused on getting to know the school, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and exploring topics such as sustainable construction, research, and the future BFH Campus Biel/Bienne.
  • Another important milestone is the launch of the new Bachelor's degree programme in Landscape Architecture, which is being offered for the first time this year.

«Complex challenges such as sustainable construction, climate adaptation and the creation of liveable spaces can only be addressed through collaboration. That is why interdisciplinary cooperation is at the heart of our introductory day.»

A start to the academic year marked by interdisciplinarity

Students from the Bachelor's degree programmes in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering and Wood Technology, together with Advanced Federal Diploma students in Wood Technology, began their studies together in Biel. Working in mixed groups, they gained insights into the different degree programmes and their respective perspectives on the built environment. The day gave them the opportunity to get to know one another, make their first connections beyond their own field of study, and experience how architecture, civil engineering, wood technology and landscape architecture complement and interact with one another.

Another highlight of the day was the future BFH Campus Biel/Bienne. During a collaborative ideation workshop, the new students developed their vision of a future-oriented study experience and discussed topics such as learning culture, multilingualism, collaboration and campus life.

First cohort of the new Bachelor's degree programme in Landscape Architecture

The start of the 2026 academic year also marks an important milestone for the School of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering: for the first time, students are enrolling in the Bachelor's degree programme in Landscape Architecture. With this addition, the School is expanding its academic offering to include a discipline that addresses some of the key challenges of our time.

«This new programme complements our existing portfolio perfectly and focuses on topics such as open space design, biodiversity, climate adaptation, and the development of sustainable landscapes and living environments.»
