BFH now part of a Europol Advisory Group
15.05.2025 BFH has become a member of the new EC3 Advisory Group ‘Research and Development’ of Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre. Benjamin Fehrensen, Professor of IT Forensics at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, sits on the Advisory Group, which met for the first time on 15 April 2025.

The European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) was set up by Europol to strengthen the law enforcement response to cybercrime in the EU and thus to help protect European citizens, businesses and governments from online crime.

The Advisory Groups foster cooperation between law enforcement agencies and academia to strengthen internet security, telecommunications and financial services.
The purpose of the ‘Research and Development’ group, of which BFH is a member, is to get a clear overview of the needs and priorities of law enforcement agencies in their cross-border fight against cybercrime:
- Support law enforcement agencies (LEA) investigating and combating cybercrime at a technical level
- Enhance cybercrime awareness among the academic and research partners to identify and facilitate research projects and educational curricula tackling cybercrime, addressing both national and international contexts.
- Create a forum for knowledge sharing, research and innovation in cybercrime.
